Our history

Foundation

Already in the late 1990s, the two friends and later managing directors Sven Slazenger and Dr. Stefan Salzbrunn developed and operated websites for various companies during their studies. This activity aroused the desire to start their own company in order to make valuable business contacts. The name “Interlake” is composed of the term “Internet” (Inter) and their home, Lake Constance (Lake).

After founding Interlake, the two initially participated in a competition for innovative companies. This led to second place and the award ceremony by Lothar Späth as well as an invitation to Bellevue Castle by the then Federal President Roman Herzog. Shortly afterwards, the first customers were also won, including Deutsche Bank and Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Employees

From 2003, Interlake hired the first permanent employees. Still based in Munich at the time, they were known in particular as specialists for ColdFusion. Soon the offer was expanded to include the web integration of audiovisual content. In 2003, Interlake started the Macromedia Server Hosting MoreMX.com, and partnerships with creditPass and Articulate were initiated, expanding the expertise in financing, employee empowerment and e-learning.

Interlake moved its headquarters to Potsdam in 2008. The film city of Babelsberg was the ideal location to further expand the focus on video hosting, video streaming and the integration of interactive video players. At the same time, a close partnership with Microsoft and an increased focus on the migration of customer applications to the cloud as well as on the 24/7 all-round carefree operation of applications were created. In addition, Interlake was soon divided into a holding structure consisting of Interlake System GmbH, Interlake Media GmbH and Interlake Learning GmbH.

Potsdam

Volucap

In 2018, Interlake, together with Studio Babelsberg, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, UFA and ARRI Cine Technik, were among the founding shareholders of Volucap, the first volumetric high-end studio in Europe. In this studio, 32 cameras enable 360-degree shots that allow the creation of digital and lifelike twins.

One year later, the starting signal was given for a particularly creative cooperation: Together with Rolf Zuckowski and Sarah Settgast, “Rolfs Liedergeheimnisse” was released. A children’s book that can be brought to life with an interactive app (our pilot project for the e-learning authoring tool Nextcreate).

Takeover

From 2018 to 2022 Sven Slazenger was on the Digital Advisory Board of the State of Brandenburg and was able to work with other experts on the digitization strategy of the state. During this time, Interlake Learning GmbH in particular was very successful as the oldest and official partner of Articulate in the German-speaking world. Simone Schwartau came on board as COO, and in 2022 the Swedish TicTac Learn took over all shares in the 100% subsidiary Interlake Learning GmbH, now a leading provider of digital learning solutions in Germany, which at that time served over 1,800 corporate customers.

After 2 years of intensive development, in 2023 Nextcreate, an augmented reality e-learning authoring tool and relevant to anyone who really wants to make a difference in eLearning, could get out as a beta. The browser-based tool with free mobile app makes it possible to build the bridge between the real and digital world. In addition, our third managing director Carolin Petzold came on board this year.
